Is This Mattress Sale Real?
Mattress stores in the US almost always show a "sale". The way to tell a real deal from a permanent one is the price history of that exact model and size. We checked 30 mattress models and lines from 6 US brand stores every day from Oct 18, 2026 to Oct 31, 2026 (14 checks). 30 of the 30 kept exactly the same in-stock queen (or king) price the whole time, and 8 showed a crossed-out "was" price at every in-stock check.
How to Judge a Mattress Sale in 5 Steps
- Pin down the exact model, size and firmness. Prices differ by size and sometimes by firmness or cover, so compare the same queen (or king) option.
- Ignore the crossed-out "was" price. It's the store's claim. Look up the model below and compare today's price with the lowest and typical in-stock price we've recorded.
- Count how long the "sale" has run. If the price and the "was" price haven't changed in weeks, the sale price is the regular price. Our daily logs show the date of every check.
- Price the whole order. Free pillows, a foundation bundle, shipping, setup or old-mattress removal, the trial period and return fees change what you really pay. Checkout coupons can also take a price lower than the one we show.
- Use the timing, don't chase it. US mattress brands commonly run promotions around Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Black Friday. A holiday "sale" is only a deal if the price drops below the model's own history.
What the "Was" Price Really Means
US Federal Trade Commission guidance on former-price comparisons (16 CFR 233.1) says a "was" price should be one the item was actually offered at, in good faith, for a reasonable period. A shopper can't check that from the product page, which is why we record the listed price every day and show it next to the store's "was" price.

How can I tell if a mattress sale is real?
Compare the sale price with what that exact model and size has actually cost in stock over time, not with the crossed-out "was" price. If the "sale" price is the same price it has had for weeks, it's the everyday price. Our price-history pages show the lowest and typical in-stock price for each model, with the date of every check.
Is the crossed-out "was" price on a mattress site the real price?
Often not one anyone pays. 8 of the 30 mattress models we track showed a "was" price at every in-stock check from Oct 18, 2026 to Oct 31, 2026; for example, the Original Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress queen was $359 on Oct 31, 2026 with a "was" price of $718. A price that's always "on sale" is the regular price.
